Four Doors of the Mind
“Sleep, forgetting, madness, and death”
Description§
The Four Doors of the Mind are the ways a person may escape from pain or grief: the Door of Sleep, the Door of Forgetting, the Door of Madness, and the Door of Death. Kvothe learns of them during his time in Tarbean, passing through each in turn after the murder of his troupe. To be cut off from these doors, as Haliax is said to be, is a particular curse.
