Haven
“The University's asylum for arcanists who crack their minds”
also known as Haven asylum, The Rookery
Appearance§
Haven is evoked through its interior and its function rather than its facade. Elodin's former cell is the most detailed image: walls lined with copper to depress naming ability, an effective straitjacket for the mind. A blue light is noted coming from the top of the building. Inmates are confined in individual rooms or cells, such as the room holding Alder Whin.
Description§
Haven, also called the Rookery, is the asylum tied to the University where students, arcanists, and guilders who crack their minds are confined. Because the University's intense studies can split or break a person's mind, a number of students each term end up there. Auri is understood to be a former student who cracked and fled into the Underthing before she could be confined to Haven. Master Elodin was himself held in Haven, in a cell with copper-lined walls that suppressed his naming ability to nothing, and later escaped in a manner that echoes a tale of Taborlin the Great. The inmate Alder Whin is locked in a room there, and a blue light is noted coming from the top of the building. Patients are kept in individual rooms and cells, and one is seen restrained and screaming that something is inside him.
