Tarbean street-gang leader who tormented young Kvothe

also known as Nalt

Appearance§

Pike is a Tarbean street urchin and homeless teenager, poorer than poor, with the ragged, malnourished look of the city's gang children. His defining associated object is the lock of curling blond hair he keeps among his belongings.

Description§

Pike is the leader of a Tarbean street gang during the years Kvothe spends homeless in the city. When Kvothe first falls in with the gang, its members jeer at him, calling him 'Nalt' after the disgraced Emperor Nalto. Pike's crew preys on other street children; in one scene Kvothe, holding a clay tile ready to attack, chooses not to rescue a young boy from them rather than reveal his hiding place. Among Pike's possessions is a lock of curling blond hair. Pike is dirt-poor, a street urchin with no money or resources. His relationship with Kvothe ends in violence: Kvothe sets fire to everything Pike owns, burning Pike and his belongings.
