The Doors of the Mind
“Classical model of the mind's defenses against pain”
Description§
The Doors of the Mind are a classical conception of how the mind protects itself from unbearable experience, which Kvothe describes as classical thinking. There are four: the Door of Sleep, the Door of Forgetting, the Door of Madness, and the Door of Death, the final resort beyond which nothing can hurt a person. They serve as a way of retreating from pain too great to face directly.
