Hespe's Tale of Jax and the Moon Is Really About Kvothe and Auri
The old story of Jax stealing the Moon mirrors Kvothe and Auri so closely it reads as a prophecy in disguise.

The theory§
Hespe's tale of Jax, the boy who stole the Moon, shares pointed parallels with Kvothe and Auri: a man plays music alone on a rooftop, a pale and beautiful figure comes to him, and she returns when he plays for her, much as Auri repeatedly asks Kvothe to play his lute in the Underthing. The theory extends this into the broader claim that many in-world tales, including Taborlin the Great, are ultimately about Kvothe, perhaps prophecies that have reshaped themselves over time into the story of a man who became a legend. A prominent inversion casts Auri, not Kvothe, as the Jax figure: a powerful, Kvothe-obsessed shaper building him a home in the Underthing, supported by the near-homophone of the Moon's name Ludis and 'Lutist.' Both readings draw on the canonical link that Hespe's Jax and Felurian's unnamed first and greatest Shaper who stole the Moon appear to be the same figure.
Evidence§
Jax is playing a song on a roof, the Moon comes, she's pale and beautiful. (Kvothe playing on the roof and Auri coming).
OP's core parallel: rooftop music draws a pale, beautiful figure in both tales. — u/andrewfoxxxThe Moon wants to go back to the sky, but she says she will return if Jax plays his flute for her. (Auri wanting to go back to the Underthing, and repeatedly asking Kvothe to play his lute for her).
Second parallel: she returns when he plays, mirroring Auri's requests. — u/andrewfoxxxThis leads into my overarching theory that many of the stories we hear are actually about Kvothe (e.g. Taborlin the Great) … I wonder if these stories are some sort of prophecies about Kvothe that have taken their own shape throughout time, but ultimately tell his story.
OP extends to broader claim: in-world tales are reshaped prophecies of Kvothe. — u/andrewfoxxxThe Underthing is the folding house, the archives and 4 plate door is the box with the piece of moon name … and the listener hermit guy is Puppet.
Comment adds mapping of story elements onto specific Underthing locations. — u/roseinapuddleI think Auri is our Jax. She’s a powerful shaper. She’s is pretty obsessed with Kvothe. … She is making a home for him in the Underthing. … I noticed the moon’s name, Ludis, is a near homophone for Lutist.
Refines theory: inverts roles, casting Auri as Jax, with Ludis/Lutist homophone. — u/PlaytheBoardClose, but Jax and the Moon is about Auri and Kvothe is closer. It's Auri who is shaping a new name for kvothe.
Supports the inversion: Auri is the shaper acting on Kvothe. — u/TheLastSockthis is a prime example of the wheel of time turning and the same story happening again, just a little differently. The revolving allegories aren’t accidental
Context: frames repeating tales as deliberate recurring allegory. — u/ImJustAVGJax and the Moon are portrayed as lovers. Kvothe and Auri aren't. … Auri being the moon, but that's like the only thread this theory hangs on...
CounterCounter: lovers framing doesn't fit; theory rests on a single thin thread. — u/Riftwalker101
