Sleat
“A seedier gaelet who can get exactly what he wants”
Appearance§
Sleat is poised and controlled, giving a lazy smile and keeping his body loose and relaxed, his expression impassive even when pressed on a sensitive subject. The only crack in his composure is a slight tension in his shoulders when caught off guard. He projects the unhurried confidence of an experienced underworld dealer who knows more than he says.
Description§
Sleat is a gaelet, a moneylender and underworld fixer working around the University, seedier than Devi and known for getting exactly what he wants. He is a hub of information, reciting to Kvothe the wild rumors swirling around him, that he sleeps an hour a night, has demon blood, and talks to the dead, with evident amusement. In The Wise Man's Fear, Kvothe presses him about having put Ambrose Jakis in touch with a pair of men known to kill for money. Sleat neither confirms nor denies it, citing his discretion and noting that the resulting stories have scared others off such work. He stays composed throughout, betraying only a flicker of tension in his shoulders when caught off guard.
