This theory rests on a deliberate textual parallel between two scenes. When Nina describes erasing the Tehlin Book of the Path, she says all you need is a knife to scrape at the parchment until the words come off, freeing the page so she can paint the true history she saw in a dream. After Denna performs her own version of the Lanre story, Kvothe says he felt 'raw as reused parchment,' as if every note had been another flick of a knife scraping him 'blank and wordless.' The shared imagery of knife, scraping, parchment, and erasure is read as a signal that Skarpi's and the Tehlins' accounts of Lanre and Tehlu are the false text being scraped away, while Denna's and Nina's versions carry the truth beneath.
