Selitos
“The ancient namer who cursed Lanre and founded the Amyr”
also known as Selitos One-Eye
Appearance§
Selitos is defined by the loss of one eye, which he put out himself by driving a sliver of mountain glass into it, earning the byname One-Eye. Before his blinding he was renowned for the keenness of his sight, able to read the truth in any face. He bears the authority of an ancient namer-lord, lord of Myr Tariniel, who surveyed his mountain city from a high vantage. The bloodied mountain-glass stone he used to blind himself is the instrument with which he laid his curse upon Lanre.
Description§
Selitos One-Eye is an ancient and immensely powerful namer from the Creation War era, lord of Myr Tariniel, the greatest of the eight shining cities, set high in the mountains and unscarred through the long war. Counted among the Knowers, he was renowned for the keenness of his sight and his ability to read the true name of any thing; only Aleph, Iax, and Lyra could match his skill in Naming. When Lanre betrayed the cities and Myr Tariniel fell, Selitos witnessed darkness gather about his former friend until nothing of his face remained but a vague impression wrapped in seamless shadow. Bound by Lanre's command 'By the name of stone, be still as stone,' Selitos drove a shard of mountain glass into his own eye to gain clearer sight and free himself enough to act, and used that stone to lay a curse upon Lanre, naming him Haliax and decreeing that his own name be turned against him, that his face be held forever in shadow, and that he have no peace until the world's end. He conceded that he could not truly kill Lanre, who would always return. Refusing Aleph's offer to ascend as an angel, he begged instead for the power to confound Lanre and his Chandrian, then gathered his faithful Ruach and founded the order of the Amyr, naming them in memory of the ruined Myr Tariniel.
