The theory§

This theory holds that the Amyr are not an order one joins but a bloodline, and that Kvothe is Amyr by birth through the Edema Ruh. The original Amyr were Selitos's faithful Ruach, a word a single sound away from 'Ruh,' who after the Creation War scattered and became the wandering Edema Ruh; the Aturan Order of the Amyr was a later human imitation of a thing whose true members were never human at all, as Felurian asserts. The reading gathers Kvothe's repeated brushes with Amyr iconography: when he calls Felurian's name he sees himself reflected with a silver star on his forehead, exactly the mark Aleph set on the first Amyr in Skarpi's tale; Auri names him Ciridae, the inner rank of the Amyr; and the Cthaeh tells him the Maer will lead him to the Amyr's door and that he will 'laugh when the time comes,' the joke being that he is one himself. Master Lorren's single deliberate blink at hearing Arliden's name and Haliax appearing in person at the troupe's slaughter are read as recognition of, and a guard against, an Amyr in the company. The theory reframes the near-extermination of the Edema Ruh as a campaign against a hidden Amyr bloodline.

Evidence§

  • Kvothe is amyr and he was amyr since the day he was born. You don't become amyr, you are born as amyr. Amyrs are "family" rather than order. The order of amyr that was a part of the Aturan empire is something completely different as confirmed by Felurian.
OP's core claim: Amyr is a bloodline by birth, not the Aturan order.u/Omilis
  • Stick by the Maer and he will lead you to their door.” The Cthaeh gave a thin, dry chuckle. … Eventually you'll get the joke. I guarantee. You'll laugh when the time comes”.
Cthaeh hint that prompted the theory; Kvothe being Amyr is the joke.u/Omilis
  • Selitos went to Aleph and knelt before him. … We will be called the Amyr in memory of the ruined city. … Ruach is similar to Ruh. So maybe Ruach become Edema Ruh.
Links Selitos's faithful Ruach to the Edema Ruh via the near-identical word.u/Omilis
  • Master Lorren turned to look in my direction, blinking once. … him realizing that another amyr stands in front of him is certainly worth a blink.
Lorren's blink at Arliden's name read as Amyr recognizing Amyr.u/Omilis
  • When he calls the name of Felurian, he sees himself reflected in her eyes. What he sees is a silver star in his forehead. … Then the fire settled on their foreheads like silver stars and they became at once righteous and wise and terrible to behold.
Adds evidence: Kvothe bears the silver-star mark Aleph gave the first Amyr.u/TheFifthBard
  • Auri names him as one of the Ciridae as well, and we know that she seems to have some knowledge of the true name of things.
Adds evidence: Auri names Kvothe Ciridae, the inner Amyr rank.u/Jared_Kincaid_001
  • It makes sense then why the edema we're hunted to near extinction as well .
    Refines theory: explains the Ruh's near-extermination as anti-Amyr campaign.u/OmniShadow0627
  • According to Felurian there never were any human Amyr. … The Adem histories trace their origin to fleeing from the one city, As do the Ruh.
Supports non-human Amyr and ties both Adem and Ruh origins to the one city.u/Kiad4ko
  • If the chandrien can sense Amyr, would they not have pounced on Kvothe?
CounterCounter: if Chandrian detect Amyr, they should have killed Kvothe.u/strategicfawn
  • I personally think the Ctheah was talking about Meluan Lackless. … their family could have been important figures within the Amyr at the peak of their power
CounterCounter: the Cthaeh's hint may point to Lackless, not Kvothe.u/Fynex_Wright

Tier reasoning§

tier verified: builds on a real linguistic link and Felurian's line but the bloodline conclusion is inferential
