Aleph
“The supreme power who made the angels after Myr Tariniel fell”
Appearance§
Aleph is a voice and a power in Skarpi's tale rather than a depicted figure, and no physical description is given. The only visual associated with him is what he bestows: when he speaks the angels' long names they are wreathed in white fire that dances along their wings, flickers in their eyes, fills their mouths, and finally settles on their foreheads like silver stars.
Description§
Aleph is the supreme power in Skarpi's creation-era tale, the figure the surviving Ruach come to after Lanre and his Chandrian sack Myr Tariniel. He spun the world out of the nameless void and gave everything a name, and is counted among the three greatest namers, alongside Iax and Lyra. Aleph speaks the long names of the Ruach who accept his offer, wreathing them in white fire that makes them swift, lets them see into the hearts of men, fills their mouths with songs of power, and settles on their foreheads like silver stars, remaking them as righteous, wise, and terrible angels with paired wings of fire and shadow, iron and glass, stone and blood. These angels, Tehlu and Andan among them, are charged to go into the world and punish or reward only what they directly witness. Selitos refuses Aleph's gift and founds the Amyr instead. Tehlu is treated as merely the foremost of Aleph's angels rather than a god in his own right.
