Andan
“One of Aleph's angels, whose name means anger”
also known as Adan, An
Appearance§
Skarpi's story gives Andan's defining image: a face that was a mask with burning eyes. This burning-eyed, masked aspect is the only concrete physical description the books provide. In Nina's painted depiction he is present only as a written name on the shoulder of the Amyr figure rather than a rendered figure, and no detail of his stature, dress, or form is given.
Description§
Andan is one of the nine Ruach whom Aleph touched and raised to angels in Skarpi's second story, the same divine act that created Tehlu. His name means 'anger,' and Skarpi describes him as a figure whose face was a mask with burning eyes. He is named in the Tehlu prayer-litany alongside Tehlu, Menda, Perial, and Ordal, and is most often paired with Ordal. In Nina's painting of the Chandrian, the names Andan and Ordal rest directly on the shoulders of the Ciridae/Amyr figure. A location west of Modeg on the tenth-anniversary-edition maps, called 'An's Anger,' may reference him.
