The Ruach
“The ancient people of the Creation War, sundered after Myr Tariniel fell”
also known as Singers, The Ruach
Appearance§
The Ruach are a near-mythic ancient people rather than visible characters, with no concrete physical description established. The only vivid imagery is transformational: in Skarpi's account, those chosen by Aleph were wreathed in white fire that danced along their wings, their eyes made to see into men's hearts, their mouths filled to sing songs of power, and silver stars settled on their foreheads, rendering them terrible to behold.
Description§
The Ruach are an ancient people from the era of the Creation War, long predating the present-day cultures of Temerant. In Skarpi's tale, Aleph spoke the long names of certain Ruach, wreathed them in white fire, and remade them into the Angels, beings who saw into the deepest hearts of men and sang songs of power, Tehlu among them. Selitos One-Eye, a Ruach, refused Aleph's gift and instead founded the Amyr to confound Lanre and his Chandrian and avenge fallen Myr Tariniel. Lanre and the Chandrian likewise arose among the Ruach. Both Skarpi's story and the Adem account given by Shehyn describe the old Ruach as singers of songs of power, tied to an ancient empire of namers and shapers whose war culminated at the battle of Drossen Tor.
