Nina
“Trebon girl whose painting captured the Chandrian and an Amyr”
Appearance§
Nina is a young country girl from the rural area near Trebon, candid and unselfconscious. She admits without embarrassment to cutting pages from the church's holy book.
Description§
Nina is a girl from around Trebon whom Kvothe encounters while investigating the Mauthen farm massacre and the Chandrian-decorated wedding vase. Having handled the broken pot, she reproduces its figures in paintings on vellum cut from the church's Book of the Path, drawing on her experience glazing pottery. Her most important image shows a black-eyed man with white hair standing on water amid snow beneath a bare tree, whom Kvothe recognizes as Cinder, the Chandrian who killed his parents. She also renders a grey figure wreathed in black flame and a terrible Amyr Ciridae soldier bearing the angel-names Andan and Ordal on his shoulders. A practical craftsperson, she explains the limits of her paint, unable to capture white or shadow on paper as she could with charcoal or pottery glazes. Kvothe accidentally 'names' Nina, fitting a pattern he shows with Auri and others.
