Trebon
“The mining town where Kvothe found Chandrian signs at a wedding massacre”
Appearance§
Trebon is a rustic backcountry mining and farming settlement set near rocky hills, with an inn and a wedding hall. During Kvothe's visit the hall is left smashed and burned, a draccus and a fire mark the surrounding landscape, and denner resin grows in the nearby woods. A horse-seller haggles on the road in, and a tinker is encountered just outside town.
Description§
Trebon is a rustic mining and farming town near rocky hills, with an inn and a wedding hall, to which Kvothe travels near the close of The Name of the Wind to investigate the massacre at the Mauthen wedding. Master Ash had arranged for Denna to perform at the wedding, and the wedding party is slaughtered by the Chandrian. Investigating the aftermath, Kvothe and Denna find evidence of the Chandrian, including Chandrian signs and a vase depicting Chandrian imagery, and Denna at that time accepts the Chandrian were likely responsible. A draccus is loose near the town and becomes tied to a fire; Kvothe later says he 'burned down Trebon,' though the draccus is the true cause. Kvothe is beaten by a guard, and Denna is injured, her arm bandaged and a bruise running from temple to hairline; Kvothe pays a doctor to patch her up and names her his 'cousin' to the innkeeper. Denna's hair is described as long and black during these scenes. Denner resin is grown in the nearby woods, and it is here that Denna first encounters it. Rothfuss has stated the Trebon section was added so The Name of the Wind would have a proper ending when the larger work was split into three parts.
