Lanre's love, a master namer who called him back from death

Appearance§

The corpus gives Lyra almost no concrete physical description; she exists as a mythic, story-bound figure rather than a depicted character. Discussion centres on her identity and power, not her looks: she is remembered as a peerless namer, a warrior who fought at Drossen Tor, and the woman whose love was strong enough to call Lanre back from death. Where fans imagine her appearance, they do so by proxy, mapping her onto candidates like Denna, Auri, or Felurian rather than from any canonical detail.

Description§

Lyra is the beloved of Lanre in the central myth retold throughout the Chronicle, appearing in Arliden's song, Skarpi's tale, Shehyn's account, and Denna's version. Selitos names her one of only three people whose skill in Naming could match his own, alongside Aleph and Iax. She lives during the Creation War and survives the Blac of Drossen Tor, fighting at Lanre's side. When Lanre is killed in battle, Lyra calls him back from death by speaking his name in several tones, drawing on her power and her love for him; he returns, a feat he himself could not accomplish. Lyra later dies, and Lanre, unable to bring her back across the doors of death, is consumed by grief and the hunger for forbidden power that drive his fall into Haliax. He claims her death was on his hands, brought about by deceit and treachery. Skarpi remembers her as both terrible and wise, holding power as great as Lanre's own. The side-tales of Savien and Aloine echo the pattern of her story, in which the man survives and the woman dies.
