Legendary Amyr hero of Illien's crowning song, sung as a duet at the Eolian

also known as Sir Savien Traliard

Appearance§

Within the Lay he is evoked as a noble, gallant Amyr knight, sung in proud, powerful tones and paired with the maiden Aloine, a grand romantic hero rather than a figure of described face or dress.

Description§

Sir Savien Traliard is a legendary hero of Temerant, named the greatest of the Amyr and immortalized in 'The Lay of Sir Savien Traliard.' The Lay is generally regarded as the crowning work of Illien, the great composer, and counts among the finest songs in the world. It is a hard duet: the male voice sings Savien while a female voice sings his counterpart, Aloine. Its themes are love lost, found, and lost again, cruel fate, and human folly. In the tale told by the ballad, Savien spends six years with the order of the Amyr before returning to Aloine. Kvothe performs the Lay at the Eolian to win his talent pipes, with Denna rising from the audience to sing Aloine opposite his Savien. Arliden and Laurian also sing the Lay the night the troupe is at Hallowfell.
