Deoch
“Co-owner and doorman of the Eolian who knew Denna for years”
Appearance§
Deoch is a broad-shouldered man who works the Eolian's door. He is older than Kvothe and Denna, and carries himself as a perceptive, worldly proprietor.
Description§
Deoch is one of the two men who run the Eolian, Imre's renowned music house, paired with Stanchion. He works the door and is one of the establishment's sharp-eyed regulars, a friend of Count Threpe. His name means 'drink' or 'potion'. Deoch has known Denna for years, since before Kvothe arrived at the University, and once pursued her romantically. He observes that she has always looked the same, that she frequents the Eolian usually on the arm of a different man, and that she disappears and reappears without trace. He tells Kvothe that Denna is a traveler rather than a wanderer, not free to come and go as she pleases, and compares her to a great oak tree that possesses something other trees lack. Kvothe writes a verse in answer to him.
