Appearance§

The Stormwal is a tall mountain range marking the eastern limit of the maps, near to which Tinuë sits. Beyond and within the peaks lies a large desert. The terrain is rugged and forbidding, and the Great Stone Road threads toward a specific point amid the chain, which separates the settled Four Corners from the arid Tahl lands to the east.

Description§

The Stormwal is a mountain range forming the eastern boundary of the Four Corners as drawn on the maps of Temerant, with Tinuë lying near its edge. Beyond and within the range lies a large desert, and the Tahl people live past it near Tahlenwald, understood to be desert nomads. The Tahl from across the Stormwal practice a form of singing magic, and Penthe says she would travel over the Stormwal to the Tahl to be cured. The range carries heavy weight in the larger story: the Cthaeh tells Kvothe he would have no hope until he made it to the Stormwal, Hespe's tale places Jax's unfolding house within these mountains, and the Great Stone Road runs almost straight from the University toward a point amid the peaks. An empire that once dominated the region drew its power from controlling the iron supply at the base of the great mountains.
