Dagon has dark, dispassionate eyes and a face that is hard, sharp and emotionless, provoking a suppressed shiver in those who meet his gaze. On entering a room his eyes flick methodically to each corner, to the window, to the other door, briefly over anyone present, then back to the Maer. Those near him react physically to his presence, describing him as cold water down the neck. He is a lean, watchful, severe military figure.

Description§

Dagon is a soldier in Maer Alveron's service at Severen, kept close by the Maer as his instrument of punishment and dangerous work. Alveron calls him "my mad dog on a short leash," preferring to keep Dagon in hand rather than let anyone else employ him. He radiates a palpable dread: when his dark, dispassionate eyes pass over Kvothe, Kvothe's street-honed survival instincts scream at him to run, and the Maer's manservant Stapes describes Dagon as "like cold water down the back of my neck" and begs the Maer to be rid of him. Cold, sharp-faced and emotionless, Dagon scans every exit on entering a room with the controlled watchfulness of a trained killer. He is the man the Maer sets against the arcanist Caudicus.
