Yll is one of the major nations of Temerant, a small coastal land of rolling hills with a warm, humid climate and air that smells of the sea. It is the origin of the Yllish language and of Yllish knot-writing, a form of woven language recorded in braided knots that Denna studies. The Yllish are sometimes connected in lore to ancient lineages and to the figure of Illien.
