The theory§

This theory threads the University's origin back to a library built by Iax, the shaper who stole the moon, and proposes that the four-plate door in the Archives is where Master Lorren has hidden every book and record concerning the Chandrian. Unable to keep such knowledge openly shelved yet unwilling to destroy it, Lorren seals it behind the four-plate door. When Kvothe finally opens that door, the released knowledge draws the Chandrian, who destroy the Archives; Kvothe takes the blame and is expelled. The chain also holds that someone who knows the name of stone aids Kvothe in opening the door and that Simmon dies as a consequence of learning what lies behind it. The identification of the University with Iax's library links the campus's deepest secret to the Creation War rather than to any later founding.
