Kvothe and Denna Are Both Lacklesses, Making Them Hidden Kin
Kvothe descends from the Lackless line through his mother, and Denna's description matches Meluan so closely she may be Lackless too.
About: Kvothe, Denna, The Lackless Family

The theory§
Kvothe descends from the Lackless line through his mother Netalia ("Tally") Lackless, who ran away from her noble house with a troupe of traveling performers and took the name Laurian. Arliden's unfinished song encodes this in wordplay: the phrase "Not-tally-a lot-less" decodes to "Netalia Lackless," and the lyric admits he won her more readily than her sister did. The theory extends the bloodline to Denna, since when Kvothe meets Meluan Lackless her profile strikes him with a resemblance so strong he feels he already knows her, and Meluan's features—strong delicate jaw, elegant neck, pale skin, red lips, dark hair and eyes—align closely with how Kvothe describes Denna. The reading is reinforced by Kvothe instinctively naming Denna his "cousin" when improvising a cover story, with "cousin" carried back to its older sense of "kinsman." If both are Lackless, they are hidden kin from separate branches of a family known to have splintered into several lines, and Kvothe's continued attraction to Denna in the frame becomes a darker, knowing thing.
Evidence§
Kvothe is probably a Lackless, on his mother's side.
OP's core claim: Kvothe descends from the Lackless line maternally. — u/chainsawx72It’s worth my life To make my wife... Not-tally-a lot-less (sounds like 'Netalia Lackless')
Arliden's song wordplay decodes to Netalia Lackless, encoding Kvothe's mother's identity. — u/chainsawx72her profile struck me with such a strong resemblance that I couldn’t help but stare. I knew her, I was certain of it. But I couldn’t for the life of me remember where we might have met
Meluan Lackless feels uncannily familiar to Kvothe, prompting the resemblance argument. — u/chainsawx72Denna: her jaw strong and delicate … Meluan: strikingly lovely, with a strong jaw
Side-by-side: Denna and Meluan share matching physical descriptions, suggesting shared blood. — u/chainsawx72“My cousin was here for a wedding,” I said, “and I heard there was some trouble.”
Kvothe instinctively names Denna his cousin while improvising a cover story. — u/chainsawx72"Cousin" is a corruption of "kinsman." So the relationship might be closer than our usual interpretation of "the child of a parent's sibling." A lot closer.
Refines the cousin clue: kinship could be much closer than literal cousins. — u/taborlyn13If it's true, I'd say that we'd want to be looking for additional evidence that the Lackless family split or had separate histories or something. There are certainly several different branches of the family that are mentioned throughout the books.
Supports hidden-kin via documented family branches that could form separate Lackless lines. — u/Katterfeel like the descriptive evidence is thin because, while the parallels are there, pat also kinda seems like the kind of guy who just only knows like 4 ways to write a woman.
CounterCounter: the Denna/Meluan parallels may just reflect repetitive prose, not kinship. — u/Alpinepotatoesif your theory is right and they are related, Kvothe in the frame story *knows that he is related to Denna.* … So I would think that frame story Kvothe would be downplaying or outright omitting his love interest for Denna
CounterCounter: frame Kvothe's continued attraction to Denna sits awkwardly if they're kin. — u/pagerussell

Tier reasoning§
plausible: Kvothe-Lackless is strong, Denna-Lackless is the speculative leg
